Sat., 5/12/12 - Berlin to Warsaw, Poland

At 8:30am we headed to the Berlin train station and boarded our train for a 5 1/2 hour ride to Warsaw.  We had reserved compartments of 6 seats each.  We rode through agricultural areas with relatively small farms, mostly of wheat and canola.  We saw some blueberry fields and apple orchards.

We visited the Warsaw Uprising Museum, housed in a restored power station. A very interesting museum. For 63 days the Polish resistance Home Army tried to liberate Warsaw from the Germans.  Their rebellion coincided with the retreat of German forces and the approach of the Red Army.  The Russian troops did not help against the Nazis but came in afterwards and dominated Warsaw and Poland and put them under Communist control.
