Wed., 6/27/12 - Rock Harbor, Isle Royale NP
Some of our group met for a 6 AM walk to look for wildlife. They saw and followed a fox which we also saw as we waited for breakfast to start.
Our whole group (20 people) took the hike to Scoville Point on the eastern end of our ridge. John pointed out flowers and different types of lichen. It took us three hours to walk the four-mile trail.

Lunch was whitefish, fresh asparagus, and wild rice. After lunch John gave a slide show titled Flowers and More. His pictures are beautiful. After naps, Marge and I walked over to Seaplane Dock to see what the canoeing options are over there. After dinner we took a pleasant evening stroll.

Thurs., 6/28/12 - Rock Harbor, Suzy’s Cove, Wolf-Moose Research Station, Lighthouse, Edisen Fishery
This morning 10 of us hiked west to Suzy's Cove. It was about four miles round trip and the cave was a basalt opening with a small exit at the opposite end. Gale climbed through it on her hands and knees. Today we saw a garter snake, a snowshoe hare, and an Isle Royale red squirrel and many more wild flowers - twin flowers, wood nymph, devil's club, Labrador tea, etc.

After lunch (veggie burger with all the fixings and a pile of sweet potato fries - yummy) we boarded the Sandy and boated out to Edisen Fishery. We walked to the Wolf-Moose Study research station and saw the moose bones and antlers Rolf Peterson has collected for years. The bones often tell why the wolves were able to kill the moose. Candy Peterson treated us to rhubarb bars she made.

Next we walked back and out to the Rock Harbor Lighthouse and walked to the top of the tower for great views. Down on the beach we found small greenstone pebbles
