Wed., 6/28/23 - Oslo
This morning, after an orientation session, the group rode a tram to a place where we could begin a walk down the “green” path along the Akerselva River. The river flows from a lake to the Oslo Fjord. There are rapids and waterfalls so it was an interesting walk.
Long ago ship building and sail making factories were operating along the river. Other factories were built during the Industrial Revolution. Now there are apartments in the old factories and the University of Culture and Design (the Arts) occupies several large buildings.

Our "urban hike" ended at the Mathallen Food Hall where we had half an hour to look around and perhaps choose something for lunch. Our leader "treated" us to a taste of Paradis licorice ice cream - two cups and a lot of spoons for the 24 of us. Two scoops cost $7.50!

Another tram ride brought us back to the hotel where we ate PB and TUC crackers for lunch and then went out (85°) to walk around the roof (plaza) of the Opera House. Marge took lots of pictures. The government is spending mega bucks to make this old port area into a tourist and people friendly green area. They are on the right track - nice apartments and no need for cars.

After wandering extensively on the Opera House plaza, we walked across the street to the Oslo Public Library, another spectacular new structure. We toured all five floors and were really impressed with the design and with what a welcoming and usable place it is.
