Friday, 1/1/10 – Rose Parade Rally
We got up at 5, ate cereal in our camper, and boarded our buses for the Rose Parade at 6 AM. We had great seats again in the bleachers on Colorado Blvd. With our backs to the sun. We had excellent views of every float, band, and horse group.
After the parade we bused back to the tent for a soup and sandwich lunch and then bused out to the area where the floats are parked after the parade. This time we judged our time better than last trip and walked past every float. Marge took 200 pictures at the parade and another 200 of the parked floats (you don't get to see all of them!). They are beautiful and colorful. We returned tired but happy we didn’t have to drive in the traffic around all of these events. The throngs of people were incredible, but generally polite. We will appreciate quiet and solitude after these few days.
We were treated to ice cream with all the trimmings and watched the second half of the Rose Bowl game in our Rally tent. Ohio State beat Oregon. Dinner was on our own tonight – we ate in the camper.
Below are pictures of the floats while in the parade, parked after the parade, and some pre-parade while they were being built. Pictures are great but being there is much, much better. These represent many, but not all, of the floats, etc. in the parade. Go to the parade, if you ever get the chance, and buy a seat in the grandstands - standing on the street is not the way to go.
