Sat., 3/4/23 - Hammamet and Sidi Bou Said

Happy Birthday, Gale!

Hammamet is a city built by the Romans halfway between Carthage and the port city of Sousse. The city had many baths for weary Roman soldiers and travelers, hence the name. On arrival, we toured the narrow streets of the medina. It was quite windy!

After arriving in Sidi Bou Said, we had to walk downhill on a rough Belgian-block surface to get to our hotel, Dar Said. The lanes are too narrow for a bus or truck.

A walk with our tour leader along the “main” street of the town included a tasting experience with the local sugar bun (like a donut) and enjoying views over the city and the sea from a lookout point. After the tour, we wandered the back lanes taking pictures of the blue doors and white houses.

Sidi Bou Said features many blue and white buildings, windows, and doors - very pretty

At 6:30 we met in the hotel lounge for Gale's birthday party.

There was enough cake for all of us and the hotel staff. It was a chocolate layer cake with LOTS of icing and chocolate, hazelnut, and pistachio nuts.
